You are cordially invited to make a difference in the lives of women, children and families by NOT ATTENDING a gala.
Instead we invite you to send a contribution to help those living with Domestic Violence.
It’s easy.Instead of getting all dressed up, take a moment to think about those in our own community who are in desperate need of security in their own homes.
Then sit down, grab a pen and write a check! (or better yet, click "Donate" below!)
We hope you accept our invitation to help those less fortunate.
Making A Difference:
Inspiration & Motivation
Lynne, 38, came into shelter with her 6 children. She suffers from hypertension, diabetes, heart disease with a past heart attack, asthma, & post traumatic stress from the abuse. All her children have asthma & 5 out of the 6 are diagnosed with post traumatic stress. She experienced abuse with her husband for 10 years. She would be forced to drink alcohol & go without food or her medicine. She had been tied or locked up, frequently hit, punched, slapped, strangled, kicked, & burned with cigarettes.Once she was kicked in the head with steel-toed boots. She was not allowed to seek medical treatment for any of her injuries.
She was in shelter for 9 weeks. While she was in shelter she was able to: secure a protection order, apply & secure housing from LMHA, resolve outstanding bills, receive counseling & medical treatment for herself & her children, secure eyeglasses for herself & a daughter, obtain clothing & school supplies for the children, & began the application process for SSI. Since she left shelter, she participates in our Aftercare Program, is active in her church, & the children are active in the Boys & Girls Club. The children excel in school & continue on with counseling. One of the children received a full academic scholarship from Ohio State!Lynne has shown exceptional courage and strength & Genesis House is proud to be a part of the inspiration and motivation that has helped her transform her life!
